About Sour Flower Vinegar

Aloha, Sour Flower Fam!!!

Our names are Shannon and Alex, and we brew whole-fruit vinegars on Big Island, Hawaii using whatever is in abundance. We ferment fruits like soursop, jackfruit, mango, guava and so much more, blending health and culinary excellence. We don't choose what fruit to use next, the land, the people, our community - they choose for us! There is so much fruit on Big Island that goes unharvested each year and we are here to preserve it in the most natural way, vinegar. Before refrigeration, sugary jams, dehydrators and freeze dryers -- there was fermentation, the natural way... the wild way. 

What makes Whole Fruit Vinegar different from the Apple Cider Vinegar we are all familiar with? ACV brews with only the juice, not the whole fruit. You may already know, but the skin, core and seeds hold the highest concentrations nutrients, specifically polyphenols and antioxidants. Each fruit has its own profile, so if we only use ACV, that's like eating one fruit the rest of your life! Your gut loves a variety of polyphenols. What better way to eat a ton of fruit than in vinegar form, its like eating fruit without sugar and complements any meal, even as simple as adding it to your water. 

The beauty of Hawaii, and of Big Island in particular is the abundance. There are many people growing the most exotic fruits on earth and others who simply have to many citrus trees, and bananas, etc. We have access to things like cashew apples, durian, jackfruit, snake fruit, mangosteen.. the list goes on. 

Along our journey we have joined the fruit nerd club. Not in a million years could we have predicted that our little fermenting fruit vinegar idea would tie into every aspect of our lives. Whether its world travel, cooking, community, foraging, hiking, swimming, playing, painting, creating... literally everything we love can be tied back to vinegar. It is truly a blank canvas. Playing with exotic colorful fruits and getting to mass create, its exciting. And the best part is that YOU get to create with us. Together we are ripping a new hole in the space time continuum. Together we are creating novelty.  Fruit vinegars that have never existed before are waiting for you to use in your own way. We avoid giving suggestions and recipes for this reason, we want your mind to be completely free to create in a way that resonates with your life experience. We challenge you to use vinegar in as many ways possible from beverages, sweet treats, to savory dumpling dipping sauces. The possibilities are truly limitless. Creating with the vinegar, well that's real health, that is nourishment for our souls. Create. 

Vinegar will never go bad. We are preserving fruit straight from the tree so that you get the optimal ripe flavor and max nutrition. Don't worry about having too much, you can never have too much, and if you do, great! .. it will never go bad :) Vinegar can out live all of us as long as it is stored properly in its bottle. 

Our mission is to encourage creativity through delicious, nutritious vinegars that support gut health, balance blood sugar, and elevate everyday meals. Each batch is unique. Every fruit ferments into a new personality.
