How to Use Your Salty Aloe Shampoo 🚿
-
Step 1: Get Hair Wet
Make sure your hair is completely wet before applying. There is absolutely no need to dilute the mixture. -
Step 2: Massage and Scrub
Massage about 2 tablespoons of the vinegar shampoo onto your scalp and scrub it in. It will not bubble up like you expect, but when you go to rinse, your hair will feel incredibly silky and smooth. -
Step 3: Rinse and Repeat
Use this as frequently as you normally wash your hair.
💡 What to Expect: The Reset Phase
- The First Wash: It feels amazing right away. You will likely think, "Wow, I really do not need shampoo!"
- The Awkward Adjustment Period: Prepare for the next few washes to potentially leave your hair feeling like you cannot get the natural oil out. Stick with it if you really want to ditch shampoo altogether!
- Week 2 Astonishment: By the second week, you will clean your hair with vinegar and be astonished that the oil gets removed perfectly. This is the exact phase where your microbiome has restored its natural state.
- The Living Soil Analogy: Think of vinegar like fertilizer and your scalp's biome as the cleaning agent. It already knows what to do. When we use commercial soap and shampoo, it kills that natural biome, leaving you oily and trapped in a cycle of needing shampoo forever. Consider a shower filter too! We don't want to do all this good work only to harm the biome with chlorine treated water :)
🌿 Choose Your Route
If you are not fully committed to ditching shampoo yet, you have options!
-
Route 1: The Total Reset
Replace your shampoo and conditioner 100% with vinegar. Power through the full awkward adjustment phase, and your scalp will be beautifully balanced for the rest of your life. -
Route 2: The Routine Booster
Simply add the vinegar mixture into your existing natural shampoo, or use it as a post-shampoo and conditioner deep rinse. It will instantly break down and remove years worth of chemical product buildup.
✨ DIY Salty Aloe Vinegar Shampoo Recipe
- • 1 part vinegar (we use our different fruit vinegars but if you are making this at home, ACV will work!)
- • 1/4 part aloe vera gel (if you don't have aloe use rosemary, lavender, holy basil, mango leaf, guava leaf, fig leave... literally so many herbs and spices are great for hair growth - use what you have available in your backyard or check the farmers markets)
- • A pinch of salt (we use our own foraged salt from the lava rocks but the variety does not matter, you can even skip the salt if you want)
📦 Storage Tips:
This recipe is fully shelf stable if you keep these exact ratios. However, if you decide to alter the recipe and use more aloe vera gel than specified, you may need to refrigerate it to keep it fresh.
If you give it a try, we would LOVE to hear how it goes! Feel free to reply to this message with any questions, and don't forget to tag @SourFlowerVinegar so we can see your results. 😊🌿
